There are a lot of rumors and mistruths surrounding the international marriage world. Many of the “Blacklist” style Russian women scam websites and forums will talk down the competition while extolling the virtues of their Affiliates. At HotRussianBrides.com, we have had plenty of experience with online dating and we feel that we have come up with an important list of criteria that a Gentleman can look at when examining whether a mail order bride or International matchmaking agency is a scam or not – and how HotRussianBrides.com stacks up in comparison.

Does the agency have a clear, documented process for exchanging contact information with a Single Russian lady?

Many of the fake agencies and Scam sites will insist that they can sell you a lady’s contact information after sending just one or two letters to her. This should always send up red flags to even the casual observer, since in the words of HotRussianBrides.com’s President: “Some sites thrive on this.  They will allow men to find a person they like and then they pay $15 to get their personal contact information.   99 times out of 100, the information is bad… Think about it, this concept of 'pedaling' contact info - without the lady's permission- is wrong on SO many levels!  Ask yourself, if this makes ANY sense at all when applying the same principal to your mother, sister, daughter, or girlfriend!  Obviously, even if the information WAS real, how long before a genuine lady would be forced to change her phone number and/or MOVE?  Furthermore, if she DOES accept calls from just anyone, is she really genuine?”

Why Mail Order Brides Don't Exist

When will the term "mail order bride" be replaced by something more current like "cyber spouse" or "world wide wife"? Millions of men are using the Internet to find ideal brides from all over the world. This practice has certainly evolved from placing orders and receiving shipments. International online dating and matchmaking has become a very popular and effective method of achieving marital bliss.

Dating back to the 1600's, the first American settlers became bored of the usual bar maids and ladies of the night for companionship. With loving and loyal women scarce in their pioneer population, they began writing letters to women back in Europe. After some correspondence, the men would arrange for the women to travel to America, they would marry, and begin their new life together. Another practice around the same time period was that mail order brides were shipped from London to America as payment for items such as tobacco. Men could take their pick from the shipment and a marriage would soon follow.

Mail order brides became widely popular across the globe in the 1980's with men seeking mostly Asian women from countries such as the Philippines and Thailand. Then with the fall of the Soviet Union, Russian and Ukrainian women joined the pool of available bachelorettes. Their beauty and intelligence made Russian mail order brides an instant favorite. This match making system was originally a printed catalog where men could peruse the pages, read the profiles, and select a wife. Then in the 1990's, the Internet replaced the archaic catalog method. This sped up, as well as transformed, the mail order bride industry.

Long gone are the days where men simply pick and purchase a foreign wife. The label of "mail order bride" still lingers, however the process today is an online match making system where marriage is decided upon by both the gentleman and the lady. The gentlemen are typically open-minded, intelligent bachelors that find women from different cultures more intriguing than "the girl next door". The ladies are outnumbered by the men in their countries and seek companionship, stability, and new opportunities with their ideal husband.

Mail order bride and online match making services result in 4,000 to 6,000 marriages per year, as reported by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, adding that these marriages appear to have a lower divorce rate than the nation as a whole. As long as people are finding partners and building happy lives together, who cares what the process is called? Mail order brides are making multicultural marriages possible.
